Snowdon from the Pyg Track
Snowdon as seen from the Pyg Track 1993
A few moments before I took this picture we had been enveloped in cloud. They suddenly peeled back to give us this astonishing view.
I wanted to give a sense of scale to the mountain, which meant that my model had to look small, and I had to get well away from him. To do this I headed back along the hillside above the Pyg Track for a way and was actually perched on the side of a small cliff with my tripod wedged there.
My friend, Rich, was having his first experience of winter mountaineering, and what a day we had. After this we climbed one of the snow and ice routes on the face you can see here. Then after the summit of Snowdon we headed over Garnedd Ugain, down the ridge of Crib y Ddysgl, over the ridge of Crib Goch, and down its east face. That's what I call a satisfying mountain day!
